school meals
School meals are prepared and cooked on site by the catering providers, Govindas. Please click here to see Govinda’s website for further information.
An important part of our ethos is the provision of hot, fresh, nutritious meals. Sharing tasty, healthy school lunches is an integral part of the educational experience at an Avanti school. It’s also an opportunity to enhance social and communication skills, ensuring lunchtimes are a positive experience for all. School staff often enjoy taking lunch with pupils, creating a family atmosphere.
The Culture of Food
Food is an important part of school culture and the art of cooking is a sacred practise. The preparation and eating of food should be based on principles of compassion, non-violence and balanced living. Lunches provide nourishment and satisfaction to the body and minds of pupils and staff allowing them to feel re-energised for teaching and learning.
Aligned to our ethos and in order to cater to pupils and staff of all backgrounds all food served is vegetarian. Menus and recipes are designed to provide a healthy balance for each meal. Avanti Schools are vegetarian schools. Pupils are not permitted to bring food and drink from outside onto the premises.
Menus are regularly updated and developed based on pupil feedback groups, so that pupils can feel comfortable and satisfied with their daily lunch that is provided.
The lunch meals cooked on-site are vegetarian (in line with the faith ethos of the school) and half-termly menus are also available on the School’s website.

You will be aware that school meals for all children aged 7 and under are funded by the state and are free to parents. Please continue to pay for children in Key Stage 2 classes unless the children qualify for a free school meal.
We only accept electronic payments for school meals. This easy and simple process is facilitated by Parent Pay. ParentPay offers you the freedom to make payments whenever and wherever you like, safe in the knowledge that the technology used provides the highest internet security available. You will have a secure online account, with a unique user ID and password. You can change these to something you will easily remember and merge accounts of two or more children.
Dinner money is £3.30 a day (subject to change) per child. Payments can be made per half term, term or full year in advance.

We Are A Nut Free School
We at Avanti House Primary School aim to be a Nut-Free school. We do not allow nuts or nut products in school.
The school aims to protect children who have allergies to nuts yet also help them, as they grow up, to take responsibility for what foods they can eat and to be aware of where they may be put at risk.
Our “Nut-Free guidance” means that the following items should not be brought into school:
-
Packs of nuts
-
Peanut butter or Nutella sandwiches
-
Fruit and cereal bars that contain nuts
-
Chocolate bars or sweets that contain nuts
-
Sesame seed rolls and breads containing sesame seeds (children allergic to nuts may also have a severe reaction to sesame)
-
Cakes made with nuts
-
Any home cooked meals for packed lunches that are made with nuts
We do not to use nuts in any of our food prepared on site at our school. Our suppliers provide us with nut-free products. However, we cannot guarantee that all food is free from nut traces.
What types of food are nuts?
-
Almonds
-
Cashew nuts
-
Hazelnut
-
Pistachio
-
Walnuts
-
Brazil nuts
-
Nut oils
-
Peanuts
Parents and carers must notify staff if their child has any known or suspected allergy to nuts and provide all medical and necessary information. This will be added to your child’s care plan and if necessary, a meeting organised with the school first aid lead.
Homemade snacks or party food contributions must have a label detailing all ingredients present.
The school requests that parents and carers observe the nut-free guidance and therefore do not include nuts, or any traces of nuts, in any food that they send to school. All children are regularly reminded about the good hygiene practice of washing hands before and after eating which helps to reduce the risk of secondary contamination. Likewise, children are reminded and carefully supervised to minimise the act of food sharing with their friends.
Thank you for your help in making our school safe for all children.
